  • What criteria are the applications juried by?

    Hudson River Exchange SUMMER MARKET is a juried fair, which helps us to keep a varied and wide range of high quality products. We are also interested in supporting the growth and development of Makers + Collectors in our community who have a vision and commitment to their craft. Due to limited space availability, we may not be able to accommodate all who apply. Vendors will be selected on the basis of quality and uniqueness, as we are looking to bring together a wide variety of content.

    1. Innovative and unique. We look for expertly crafted handmade goods with unique and innovative design and special vintage collections of high quality objects. For food, we look for vendors that strive to serve beautifully presented or packaged using well-sourced ingredients.
    2. Diversity of products at the market. We accept a limited amount of vendors from each category. Applicants are not limited to listed categories if application submitted demonstrates a strong connection to the values of the event. Please contact us at info@hudsonriverexchange.com if you do not feel you fit in a category and we will help direct you.
    3. A clear point of view demonstrated through a cohesive product line. We are looking for consistency within a line of products. We prefer vendors that have specialized in a product but offer a variety within that genre.
    4. Price of items. We are looking for pricing consistent with both the quality of the work and accessible to the Summer Market audience. Average price for products falls between $1-$250.

    Why is there a non-refundable application fee?

    A $15 non-refundable application fee is due in order to process your application. All applications are reviewed by the Exchange Founders. The application fee covers costs associated administrative expenses to process and jury applications. Applications will not be reviewed if the application fee has not been paid. If selected, the application fee will be deducted from your final booth fee.

    Am I a Maker? Collector? Community Curator?

    A Maker creates handmade goods. Whether you’re an artist or designer making objects, a farmer with value added goods, or an artisan of specialty items, we seek Makers who uphold high standards of craft and use the best quality ingredients and materials.

    A Collector procures vintage and antiques. We seek vendors with a keen curatorial eye for gently used, well-crafted items for the home, furniture, clothing, and accessories.

    A Community Curator is someone who works with emerging and underrepresented artists/designers in their region or locality. We see marketplace events as opportunities to promote dialogue and exchange between the Hudson Valley and the greater maker community. There is no additional fee for this booth. When filling out your application, please indicate “Community Curator” as your Category. When filling out the application, please be prepared to submit information about the represented artists  and a mission statement from the Curator.

    Can I share a booth space with another vendor?

    Yes!

    We welcome both shared booths and what we call “Community Curator” booths. However if you will be selling or representing work that is not yours, or if you will be sharing a booth with a fellow makers, collector or farmer we need to know in your application and have specific rules for both.

    Shared Booth – A shared booth is when 2 makers, collectors, farmers get together to, well, share a booth. Work made by 2 separate brands [makers / collectors / farmers] will be at the table. Please note all members of a shared booth must submit an application by the application deadline. Each submission will be juried individually. All vendors must be reviewed and accepted prior to the application deadline. Just remember to indicate on your application under ‘ADDITIONAL REQUESTS’ that you will be sharing a booth and the name of the business you would like to share with. The application with shared booth requests will not be reviewed until both applicants have submitted their application. If you are sharing a booth, there is a $25 fee in addition to the booth fee. We require an additional fee because each business will be posted on our vendor directory individually.

    Community Curator Booth – A community curator is someone who works with emerging and underrepresented artists/designers in their region or locality. We see this as an opportunity to promote dialogue and exchange between the Hudson Valley and the greater maker community. There is no additional fee for this booth.     What does the booth fee include?

    SPACE: The booth fee provides you will a 10’x10′ or 10x’5′ space under large event tents. All participants are responsible for supplying their display set up. The vendors are hosted under large (approx 60’x140′) weatherproof tents which are over a grass field. The spaces are marked and assigned prior to the event. Tables and chairs can be rented prior to the event.

    PRESS/SHOP MAILING: *NEW* Printed material with representation of each participant will be sent to our select mailing list of aligned Shops + Press (national and regional).

    OFFICE HOURS: *NEW* Kate and Stella will be available for consultation, and you will be able to sign up for a 15 minute session. Kate is our social media + dot connector, Stella is the visual problem solver. Select dates will be announced and hosted at Rivertown Lodge. Postcards, flyers will be available for pick up.

    VENDOR SOCIAL: Saturday morning before the market opens, we’ll host a vendor social to give you time to shop and meet fellow participants.

    PRIORITY SIGN-UP: *NEW* early sign-up will open to market participants for our monthly group critiques leading up to Summer Market.

    What is a Truck or Mobile set-up as a Maker/Collector/Community Curator?

    Do you have a large-scale installation that’s too large to fit in a 10×10′ space? We’re inviting makers, collectors, and community curators with trucks, airstreams, or have a self-standing set-up to join the roster of  to Summer Market. Please keep in mind this event takes place rain or shine.

    What would I need to bring as a vendor?

    There will be rentable tables and chairs and you are welcome to bring additional racks or other displays if you prefer. All displays must fit within the given space. Vendors will be responsible for bringing their own material to create their display. Displays should be tidy and ask that any extra inventory kept in the space that is hidden from view. Hudson River Exchange asks for vendors’ cooperation to adjust or remove any obtrusive display elements at our discretion.

    What is the venue like?

    Henry Hudson Riverfront Park is along the Hudson River with a backdrop of the Catskill Mountains just steps away from the Amtrak train station. You can see images of past summer markets here.

    Is there electric hook up available?

    This is an outdoor venue and electric is limited. We do our best to honor requests for electric but unfortunately can’t accommodate everyone. Requests must be submitted by the deadline set by organizers and vendors will be notified prior to the event regarding status of electric access.

    Is there wifi at the park?

    Unfortunately, there is no wifi available at the park.

    Are tables and chairs available to rent?

    YES! You will be able to reserve rentable tables and chairs prior to the event. We try to keep small number on-hand at the event for last minute rentals.

    Do I need to collect sales tax? Do I need any permits?

    + Vendors are responsible for collecting and reporting sales tax.  You can contact New York State’s department of revenue for more info.

    What is does it mean to be on the waitlist?

    At the end of the jury process, there is a waitlist of vendors that will be notified on a rolling basis after April 1st. Only those that have applied by the application deadline (March 15th) are considered and placed on the waitlist.

    What is does it mean to have an incomplete application?

    In some cases, at the end of reviewing an application, the organizers may have additional questions that will help make further decisions. Organizers reach out to vendors via email or phone. This may cause a delay in notification if you have been contacted regarding an incomplete application.

    What is the cancellation + refunds policy?

    Unfortunately, Hudson River Exchange is unable to refund fees once final payment has been received for the spaces. Booth spaces and fees are not transferrable.
